Competition No 1: Open Mono Competition [March 11th]

Competition Rules:

All competitions and exhibitions are open to all fully paid-up members of the Cavan Camera Club.
Competitions are divided into 2 sections, Senior and Novice.
Senior : For advanced members.
Novice : For beginners and intermediate members alike.

On becoming a member he or she will elect to be in either Novice or Senior but will not be allowed to stay in Novice on:

a) acquiring a distinction of the Irish Photographic Federation, or other professional qualification.
b) previously winning photographer of the year.
c) self electing to be in Senior.

  • The committee’s decision will be final.
  • Members must compete in the same grade throughout the competition year.
  • Each photographer can submit 2 images into each competition and they carry their best score forward.
  • Photos must be taken within 12 months of the competition date, and must not have been previously submitted in a Cavan Camera Club competition.
  • Print size is maximum 16ins * 12ins (the preferred option) minimum 10ins * 8ins.
  • Prints may be in colour or black & white unless specifically stated in the competition.
  • Prints must be mounted with Max Mount Size 20ins * 16ins on “Snow White” mount board.
  • Maximum aperture (opening) in the mount should be 16ins * 12ins to coincide with the maximum print size.
  • “Snow White” mount boards can be purchased from the club, sheets of mount board can be purchased from the club by members who wish to do their own customised aperture mounting (aperture must be maximum 16ins * 12ins and minimum 10ins * 8ins)
  • All entries to be clearly labelled with Competition number, membership no. and title (if titled).
  • Please do not put your name on your entry.

The Scoring is as follows:

  • Judging, in so far as possible, will be carried out by a guest judge.
  • Each image is marked out of 20 points.
  • Feedback and results will be given on the night of submission where possible.
  • The judge will select 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each section (senior & novice) from the group of images with the highest points.
  • The winner is awarded an additional 3 points, second and third an additional 2 and 1 point respectively.
  • If you are unsure of anything to do with the above Competition Rules please ask a committee member for help or advice.

A “Photographer of the Year “(POTY) award will be presented at the end of the year for each of the Senior and Novice categories. The awards will be determined by accumulating members top scoring photographs (if more than one entered) from each of the competitions entered. The member with the highest score in each category is deemed POTY in that category (senior or novice).

    ie repetative patterns .
